I am an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Cal Poly.
My research is in the field of geometric topology. I work on questions related to mapping class groups of 4-manifolds and knotted surfaces in 4-manifolds. My work also relates to knot theory and knot concordance.
More about meI am originally from Winchester in the UK. I completed my undergraduate and masters degrees at the University of Cambridge. I received my PhD from the University of Edinburgh as a student of Andrew Ranicki.
I have held postdoctoral positions at Durham University, the CIRGET lab at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Boston College, ETH Zürich, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn.
